CFP 64: The Round Of 16

(1) Georgia 30 (4) Iowa 9

The Hawkeyes just didn’t have the offensive firepower to compete against the Bulldogs D.  It was fairly close at the half, with Georgia only up by a TD, but they didn’t cross the 50 in the second half.

(7) Clemson 24 (3) Kentucky 21 (OT)

A defensive struggle that ended regulation tied at 14 with a pick 6 and a kick return accounting for 2 of the 4 TDS, was won when Kentucky missed a 40 yard FG to tie in the 2nd overtime… giving Clemson its second straight upset.

(8) Iowa St 31 (4) Oregon 27

Like Clemson, the Cyclones appear to have reached their potential at the right time.  Breece Hall powered ISU with his third straight 150 yard, multi YD game.

(3) Pitt 34 (2) Cincinnati 17

The talk of the Bearcats ends after their first test against anyone beyond an overrated Notre Dame team.  Cincinnati never really threatened after the Panthers blitzed them with a 17-0 first quarter lead.

(1) Michigan 24 (5) Utah 20

The Utes D was solid against the Wolverines, but their O threw in 4 turnovers, all of which led to Michigan Points.

(2) Baylor 41 (3) BYU 38 (OT)

The Bears survived another 400 yard game from Jaren Hall, winning in the first overtime when BYU missed a FG in the opening turn and the Bears did not.

(9) Auburn 27 (5) Arkansas 26

The Tigers string of upsets continued when the Razorbacks, after pulling to within one  with a late TD as the clock expired, had the PAT blocked.

(2) Ohio State 56 (6) Minnesota 21

The Buckeyes lit up the scoreboard early and often once again, and needed to, giving up more than 350 rushing yards to the Gophers… who were still not able to overcome 6 CJ Stroud TDs.
