Why Is Southeast Missouri State Called The Redhawks?

Prior to the 2005 season, Southeast Missouri was known as the Indians. The Redhawks are a member of the NCAA FCS Ohio Valley Conference, which they joined in 1991 after moving up from NCAA Division II.

Cape Girardeau – Southeast Missouri State University has dropped its Indians nickname. The Board of Regents in Cape Girardeau Wednesday voted to instead make the mascot the Red Hawks.
