The Best D@mn Power Rankings: Week 2 (31-60)

31 Texas (1-1)

Lost to Arkansas 40-21

We came into the season saying that Texas was a fading program living on its legacy. We saw in week one that the Longhorns still have enough of a talent gap that they’re not going to lose to a Sun Belt team, but this week, Arkansas just decimated them.It may get better under Sark, but not this year.

32. Utah (1-1)

Lost to BYU 26-17

After two disappointing weeks, the Utes look like anything but Pac 12 contenders.

33. Louisiana (1-1)

Beat Nicholls 27-24

The Cajuns survived.  And while Nicholls is actually one of the better FCS teams, it was still way too close for comfort.  The fact that the Colonels tore up the Louisiana D the way it did should scare fans, especially heading into a 2021 Sun Belt where there is offense everywhere.

34. Minnesota (1-1)

Beat Miami (Ohio) 31-26

Now that we see that playing Ohio State tough at home may not have been the big deal it seemed like, struggling with a MAC team… and not even one of the good ones… makes a bit more sense.

35. Washington (0-2)

Lost to Michigan 31-10

So maybe the Huskies aren’t quite as good as we thought…

36. Army (2-0)

Beat Western Kentucky 38-35

The Cadets were impressive early and held off the rally. That D was tested late, but 2-0 is 2-0.

37. Boston College (2-0)

Beat UMass 45-28

The Eagles were convincing, but… 28?  Against UMass?

38. Miami (1-1)

Beat App State 25-23

It wasn’t pretty, but Miami needed this one, especially with a much improved Michigan State team coming to town next.

39. Missouri (1-1)

Lost to Kentucky 35-28

The Tigers are getting closer; they could have won this game.  Until they start winning games like this, though, they’ll keep their spot in the middle of the pack.

40. UTSA (2-0)

Beat Lamar 54-0

If you haven’t heard about the Roadrunners, you will.  We’re calling it now… UTSA won’t lose a regular season game this year.

41. SMU (2-0)

Beat North Texas 35-12

Mustangs roll heading into an interesting matchup with La. Tech.

42. Texas Tech (2-0)

Beat Stephen F. Austin 28-22

The Red Raiders almost got bitten by that FCS bug that’s going around.  No way in h@ll this game should have been a game at all.

43. Wake Forest (2-0)

Beat Norfolk State 41-16

The Deacons took care of business this week. Huge showdown with the ‘Noles on deck.

44. Northwestern (1-1)

Beat Indiana State 24-6

It looks like the Northwestern we all know and love is back. Fundamental. Boring. Average. This game was like watching a high school team beat a bad high school game.

45. Houston (1-1)

Beat Rice 44-7

The Cougars got things back in order against the Owls.

46. Indiana (1-1)

Beat Idaho 56-14

The Hoosiers needed a game like this to shake it off.

47. Appalachian State (1-1)

Lost to Miami (Fla) 25-23

The Mountaineers took Miami to the wire on the road; At least in 2021, the Sun Belt looks like the best non Power 5 conference.  And it may not be close.

48. San Jose State (1-1)

49. Boise State (1-1)

Beat UTEP 54-13

You could see this was a Boise team that had something to prove… still kicking field goals with a couple of minutes left… this team wanted a big ugly score, and they d@mn sure got it. We’ll see if they can do iit against a big boy team next week.

50. Auburn (2-0)

Beat Alabama State 62-0

This is as good as the 2021 Tigers are gonna be.   And they’ll need every bit of it heading into Penn State.

51. Virginia (2-0)

Beat Illinois 42-14

Brennen Armstrong doesn’t even look like the 2020 version of himself. Granted, the Cavs haven’t played anyone, but for now he’s tearing it up. See how he handles head to head with Sam Howell.

52. TCU (2-0)

Beat Cal 34-32

Zach Evans was a man among boys out there. Frogs might actually surprise a team or two in conference play.

53. Pitt (2-0)

Beat Tennessee 41-34

Solid road win for a Pitt team that looks like it might be better than most of us expected.

54. Michigan State (2-0)

Beat Youngstown State 42-14

Sparty handled business in tune up game. Now on to Miami for a showdown with the U.

55. Virginia Tech (2-0)

Beat Middle Tennessee 35-14

The Hokies really are starting to look like.. Well, the Hokies again.

56. Stanford (1-1)

Beat USC 42-28

So it looks like the Cardinal have found the next great Stanford QB.

57. UAB (1-1)

Lost to Georgia 56-7

You kind of got the feeling watching the beginning of this game that the Blazers really thought they were here to hang with the Bulldogs.  It didn’t last long.

58. Florida State (0-2)

Lost to Jacksonville State 20-17

We saw today that Notre Dame isn’t actually very good, but still… Jacksonville State?  How far the mighty have fallen….

60. Baylor (2-0)

Beat Texas Southern 66-7

The Bears are building momentum heading into conference play… won’t change against Kansas.
