2020 Record: 4-5
5 ⭐ ……….
3 ⭐………. 19
The Deacons are what they are. They were exciting to watch, finished the regular season at .500, and landed in a bowl where a better team kicked the hell out of them.
There’s no reason to think that Wake will be any different in 2021. They’ll beat the bad teams on their schedule, have some shootouts with some of the better teams, finish at or slightly above .500, and land in a bowl.
If Things Go Well:
Sam Hartman definitely put up some numbers in 2020. For him to take that next step, the Deacons need to improve on the O line. The RB rotation is average at best, so this teams fortunes will rest on his arm again.
If They Don’t
Things would have to go really wrong for the Deacons to take a step back. In a year where everyone has more returning talent than usual, Wake is still one of the most experienced teams in America.
It isn’t unrealistic to think the Deacons could start 6-0. But the home stretch starting with Army on October 23rd is brutal. It’s just as conceivable that Duke will be the only team they beat in the second half of the season.
